many ocarinas: Necklace, whiffle, and sculptural
These kissing ocarinas indeed have 2 mouthpieces; They are fun & challenging to play. They work well played with call & response. When the Pandemic started, we stopped playing them.
Many ocarinas can be found throughout this site: e.g. on the pages titled Ocarina pot, Multi-performer, Anatomical, & Musical Food, all ocarinas. Herein are necklace ocarinas, iron red whiffles, and some sculptural ocarinas.
Whiffles (my term) have one chamber with its recorder type mouthpiece inside the simple tube & the sounds can be varied with the interactions between the tube & the fingerholes. One hand uses the holes to vary the sound. The other hand opens & closes the tube and this also varies the sound. Each can be played independently. This pair of Whiffle Ocarinas were designed to play together; there are many interactions between tube’s ‘whiffling’ & the clearer sounds from the holes. They are relatively easy to play. The right hand plays with the two tuned holes; the left hand shades the sounds & pushes the sound into higher & other sounds. Other whiffles have five finger holes on the right & are played similarly. In this whiffle video, it was the first time Cheryl had played one; she had had many previous experiences with flutes.
Step into Spring consists of tuned left & right foot ocarinas, each resting on an iron coil. These ocarinas have 8 finger-holes; each plays the western scale and are tuned to play together. This piece has been sold.
Musical Food: The Acorn Squashes & Bell Pepper play an octave with 6 fingerholes & 1 thumb hole; Double Chili Peppers have wonderful sounds & varied intervals between the 2 flutes; The patty pan squash plays deep tones. All have lovely colors and are also ready to be artistically positioned on your table or countertop. Each can be played.
